Course Description

Hawaiian Pacific Literature 9A is a high school English course that focuses on teaching traditional and contemporary literature by indigenous writers of Hawaiian and other Pacific island descent. The content of the course is presented through themes that represent important cultural traditions and values. Students engage in learning activities that allow them to build upon and discover their own personal histories, cultures, perspectives and experiences.

"Submission to the Greenhouse ECP has allowed me as an instructor to examine curriculum, teaching strategies and student engagement from a broader evaluative perspective. Having to complete each section of the rubric using anecdotes and visuals helped me to clearly see how components in our course compared to best practices. While the process did help to identify course components that could be improved, it was also a very positive experience when areas that the development team identified as strengths were affirmed through the use of the rubric."
